Have you seen Tangled? It just so happens to be one of my favorite animated movies. I love the characters, the scenery, the songs… but one song (ok, several of them) makes me want to get up and sing too.
Do you remember the song, “I’ve Got A Dream?” Rapunzel and Flynn find themselves in a pub with an ornery and rather frightening crowd of men. They are about to turn Flynn over to the authorities when Rapunzel stops them with the question, “Find your humanity! Haven’t any of you ever had a dream?” And suddenly this burly group of men start bearing their souls of the heart’s dreams.
I’m willing to bet you have a dream. Something planted deep within you. Maybe it is something that you haven’t thought about in quite awhile, thinking you don’t have the time, talent or opportunity. Or maybe it is something you can’t stop thinking about it.
If so, you need to pick up this book by Holley Gerth called You’re Made for a God-Sized Dream: Opening the Door to All God Has for You. In this book of just over 200 pages, Holley becomes a cheerleader and guide for those aspiring to see their dreams fulfilled. She is a certified life coach, speaker and cofouder of (in)courage, with plenty of big dreams herself.
She walks the journey with you of identifying a God-sized dream, overcoming fear, calling you to action and prayer. Holley helps you stop sabotaging yourself, encourages you not to quit when things go wrong (because they will) and sends out the constant reminder of obedience to the calling of God.
God-sized dreams are bigger than what you can do by yourself. You have your limits. God is limitless. Your God-sized dreams will always take you closer to the Lord. Holley shares, “Your God-sized dream is meant to bring your soul joy. It’s intended to be a place where you experience deep intimacy with God and rejoice with him.”
If you need a little focus, if you need a little encouragement, motivation or direction, I think you’ll really enjoy this book. Holley becomes that friend over a cup of coffee spurring you on to the greatness and adventure God has for you. My copy of the book is filled with underlines and stars. And almost every time I picked it up to read, I heard that song from Tangled in my head.
Yes, I’ve got a dream. I’ve got a God-sized dream.
