in a rush

Feeling busy and distracted?  Maybe a little overwhelmed?  Lists are long and we’re rushing to get everything done.

We rush through our days.  We rush through our errands.  We rush through our lists.  We rush our kids out the door and we burn the midnight oil.

We rush.

But how often to we rush to Jesus?

Have we forgotten or become so self-sufficient that we’ve neglected to remember our great and daily need for Him?  Honestly, I don’t want to wait for the life-altering situations or crisis moments to rush to Jesus.  I want to go now.

The Bible tells us that in Jesus, we find:

Peace – “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”  Isaiah 26:3

Joy – “… for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”  Nehemiah 8:10

Help – “I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.  He will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.”  Psalm 121:1-4

Comfort – “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”  2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Direction – “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”  Psalm 16:11

Rest – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”  Matthew 11:28-30 (All italics mine.)

rest for our souls

How about you?  What are you rushing to?  Ultimately, the goal of rushing to Jesus is that we may find rest for our souls in Him.

May each step we take in our busy days take us closer to Jesus.
