I have something to confess. Every day, my makeup looks the same. Same colors, same techniques, same amounts. I don’t do anything different. Partly because of habit, but mostly because of a lack of makeup knowledge and style. There have been many times I have wished that I could easily switch things up for a wedding or fancy date with my husband. But what are you supposed to do when you don’t know what to do?
And that is why I was so excited when Lindsay, an independent presenter for Younique Products, contacted me about this review and giveaway. Younique Products is a makeup and skin care company started by a brother and sister in Utah that is just hitting its first anniversary this month.
The company has grown very quickly and when Lindsay shared with me about the products, particularly the Moonstruck 3D Fiber Lash Mascara, my interested was peaked. Fuller eyelashes that look natural. Could it really work? What girl doesn’t want to add volume and thickness to her lashes?
Take a look:
My Experience with the 3D Fiber Lashes: It took me about 2-3 times to really get a good handle on what I was doing with the mascara. (Remember my lack of makeup skills?) But by day 3, I had it and let me tell you, wow!! My eyelashes looked so much thicker! I especially loved that I had complete control as to how much I added and how big my lashes became. Awesome!
Not only did Lindsay send me the 3D Fiber Lashes, but she also sent me samples of the eye pigments and a lip color. Younique Products pigments (shadows) are 100% natural. They are made from minerals, have a natural 15% spf because of their ingredients and are made without any talc or fillers. You can use the pigments dry as a normal eye shadow. But if you’d like a bolder color, slightly dampen the brush and you’ll get a stronger pop of color. I really enjoyed using these too!
Special Offer for Blog Readers: Lindsay is graciously offering a free eye pigment (value of $10 ) for any purchases over $75. Please Note: use the “Celebrate Every Day” event under the ‘My Parties’ link to place your order but do not put the free eye pigment choice in your cart. Lindsay will contact you after your order is placed about choosing your free eye pigment. This offer is good through December 25, 2013. Also, any orders over $100 automatically receive free shipping.
If you would like to join Lindsay’s team and become a Younique Presenter, contact her here or learn more at Lindsay’s Facebook Page.
The Giveaway: One winner will receive the 3D Fiber Lash Mascara (value of $29) along with 4 sample eye pigment colors of their choice. The contest will run Wednesday, November 6th through Tuesday, November 12, 2013. Open to residents of the U.S. and Canada, 18+. Apologies to my international readers.
Disclosure: I received the products at no cost. All opinions are my own.
WOW! My natural eyelashes are few and far between, as well as very thin with no curl. I have tried to use fake eyelashes to improve them but can’t seem to apply them well. I’ve also tried DermStore’s Smart Lash to see if they’ll grow in fuller and longer. Failed. This product appeals to me greatly. I’m happy to have learned about them through you. And thanks for the opportunity to win a free one!
Oh, and the only makeup tip I can provide is that it’s worth investing in a variety of good eye shadow brushes. I don’t use makeup everyday, so I usually just used the free eye shadow brush that came with my eye shadow…until a month ago. I found a great sale on quality brushes, so I bought four different kinds of eye shadow brushes. Wow, it really makes a difference in making it easier to apply the shadow the correct way. I can now cover my eyelid properly since buying my first wedge brush. I use it to get the shape of the shadow around my lid and into my crease correctly. I also own a large shadow brush, a small shadow brush, and a blending brush for the eye.
It is amazing what a difference a good brush makes! I was the same way until I got Younique’s brushes. I didn’t realize how much product I had been wasting because my tools were bad. Plus our brushes are designed to last a lifetime! So fantastic!!
Stephanie, one of the added bonuses of this product is it is full of collagen with will naturally help your lashes grow thicker and full on their own! Add the incredible lengthening effect of the fibers and you will fall in love! I know I did!!
I would love to know how to make my lipstick look fresh all day long with out reapplying
Barbara, one of the things you can do to encourage longer stay with your lip glosses and lip sticks is to use a primer. Our primer is 100% natural, and gentle enough to use all over your face, eyes, and lips. Another great way to get a longer color is to use mineral pigments (like our eye shadows) in a matching color to your lip stick. Apply the pigment to your lips with a brush after dampening the brush with rose water. This will help to give your lips a bit of a ‘lip stain’ effect so you’ll have to touch up less! That’s one of the greatest things about mineral makeup is its versatility!
i love playing up my eyes and love to put white eyeliner on my water line
My best tip is less is more, though I’d like tips for how to play up my eyes easily.
Jamie, I would love to give you some tips! If you’re able, email me a picture of your eyes, and another of a straight on shot of your face if you’re willing, and I’ll get you some tips! Everyone’s eyes have a different shape and angle, so person specific advice is always best! Lindsayrtomlinson@gmail.com
So apparently the website doesn’t like my answers I’m giving you. Message me through my webpage so I can give you some specific tips, but a good one to start is make sure you’re using a bright white like our color ‘curious’ or ‘sexy’ to highlight the inside corner of your eye as well as your brow line!
As a woman in her 40’s, my best tip is to use a BB cream. These are great for making your lines less prominent.
Shani, I couldn’t agree more! A tip jumping off of that is make sure you get a good quality BB Cream. I used the cheap garnier bb cream for a while and thought it was great. Then I got Younique’s mineral pigmented bb cream and was blown away by the difference. High quality makeup and skincare is worth it!
I would love some help with dark circles. I get plenty of sleep and still cannot seem to get rid of these. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!!
I’m right there with you! Puffy & dark circles under my eyes. I notice mine get worse when I have dairy…but admittedly, that doesn’t stop me. 😉
Dark circles are a hard one! Two bits of advice, using a slightly lighter concealer just under your eyes is the best way to cover it up a bit. A great way to help reduce it is to use a face wash and moisturizer with a natural anti-inflammatory in its ingredients. If you win I will make sure to send you some samples of ours to try out. A lot of the dark circle is actually caused by inflammation in that area. Who would have thought!
looks fabulous!!! would love to try 🙂
Don’t use eye shadow the same color as your eyes. Find a color to complement and make them pop.
I need tips on eyebrows! I don’t know how to pluck them and I don’t ever put anything on them. Thanks!
Tulip, send me a closeup photo of your eyes and eye brows. I can give you some shaping advice. lindsay.r.tomlinson@gmail.com. Are you happy with their thickness or are they to thin for you? Also, a great way to start with eyebrow care is to go get them waxed or threaded. From there you can maintain them, but they will give you that initial shape you’re looking for
I’m with you – I definitely need more tips and I have nothing to give. What a great looking product!
Melanie, you have such a beautiful soft coloring! I would definitely suggest soft natural colors as well as metallic colors for your eyes. Now I know that sounds crazy but I’m not talking like crazy silver metal colors. I’m talking like a soft brown with a coppery sheen, a bit of gold (check out the pigment colors ‘confident’ ‘gorgeous’ and ‘provoked’ ) A soft blush (something like younique’s color ‘sweet’) would make those amazing cheeks of yours really stand out and draw out the great shape your face has!! On a completely unrelated note, I’m pretty sure I’m going to be making reece’s pieces c.c. cookies tonight and it’s all your fault! 🙂
Dip a qtip into face cream to take off under the eye mascara smudges.
I need these! ha! Very badly!
I would like a tip on how to make my eye shadow last without creasing.
Sue. Two very easy tips 1. High quality is going to cover and stay put better than cheap drug store makeup. I didn’t believe it till I tried it. Tip 2. A good primer helps so much, not just your eyes but all over! Our primer is 100% natural, makes your skin feel like silk, and does an amazing job of prepping your skin so your makeup stays put, and I’m talking I’ve spent hours in the sun sweaty and gross and my makeup didn’t budge. So 1. High quality makeup and 2. Get a great primer
i’d like a tip on how to get rid of smudges under my eye from mascara. it even happens with water proof mascara!
Waterproof mascara is actually worse for this than others. Water resistant mascara is what you want. I haven’t had any issues with our 3d fiber lash mascara smudging (except the time I accidentally smushed the wand on my cheek… Oops) also, don’t bug your eyes out when applying the mascara. Keep you eyes their natural resting shape and apply the mascara. This will help you avoid the waterline which will help minimize the smudge
This looks amazing. My brother was the one blessed with naturally long lashes, this would be so neat. Thanks for the opportunity!
I think the best tip I have ever gotten was use a good cleanser and moisturizer both that work well for your skin type. Its much easier to create a beautiful face with a clean one.
Tamara I couldn’t agree more!! I used the medical grade stuff in high school and eventually gave up because it just made my skin feel like sandpaper. I now have an incredible face wash that shrinks my pores, helps with eye inflammation, and cuts down on my natural redness, and my moisturizer is doing wonders for my combination skin, evening it out to the perfect moisture level. It makes a huge difference!!
My lashes are so lame. I’d love to try this.
I’d love tips on how to conceal baggy/puffy eyes!
Hey Stephanie! Baggy/puffy eyes are always a concern we women have. So a couple of hints on how to minimize there appearance are 1. use a concealer that is a slightly lighter shade than the rest especially if you also have dark circles with the puffiness. 2. Also, stay away from really dark eye shadows as they tend to make the eye look a bit more tired. The real focus should be in chasing them away. It is important to use a face wash and moisturizer that has natural anti-inflammatory agents in it. That will help bring down the swelling that causes the puffiness as well as help lighten any circle. Check out our facial cleanser ‘awake’ and moisturizer ‘brilliant’. These have done wonders for me! The pearl powder, ginseng, chrysanthemum, aloe-vera, and licorice root work together to renew skin, balance color, and calm inflammation. Gotta love nature!
My favorite tip is the use of QTips. I always have them nearby while applying makeup!
I’m not the greatest on makeup, but my best tip is to use concealer. Use it under your eyes, use it to level the playing field – like to make your canvas the same color before you begin to paint – on eyes, cheeks, etc. Cover up all the bad spots with concealer. Also, use a great cleanser for your skin every night!
Another thing to add to the ‘canvas’ concept is using a great primer. If you set your skin up to receive that makeup before you start you’ll be much happier with the results. Just like when you’re painting a wall at home, if you prime it first you use much less paint and it takes much less time and you’ll be happier with the result!
I am so lacking in makeup skills. I need to know HOW to put mascara on correctly so that it makes a difference.
Georgia, there are a few tricks with getting an impact from mascara, but I’m quickly learning that the quality of the mascara is the biggest game changer. Having a mascara that is designed to have the effect you want is great, but you’ll get a better effect from a high quality one compared to a cheap brand. A couple of things to make sure of is 1. don’t pump the wand in and out of the tube, this will dry it out 2. using smooth slow strokes to cover the lash is going to have less clumping. 3. Don’t be afraid to do more than one layer. You want to let it dry between layers with a traditional mascara so you don’t get spidery lashes, but more than 1 layer will make your lashes longer and thicker. Also, wiggling the brush side to side can add to clumping, so if you’re having an issue with that don’t wiggle 🙂
I would like tips on how to match colors with my eyes better – I am kind of a mess when it comes to colors. lol
I have an amazing chart for you! What eye color do you have?
Really? I would love to see it – my eye color is actually very strange I have been told. My natural eye color (without color corrective lenses I mean) is Grey.
Samii, go to my Facebook page and message me or email me at lindsay r tomlinson at gmail dot com (sorry if i type it like a normal human it goes into the black abyss of needed approval) and I’ll send you the couple of charts I have. The general consensus is pinks and purples are perfect for grey eyes! You can also treat them like blue eyes and go with soft browns and gold and copper browns!
Dont over blush!
If any of you have questions that are specific to you, please message me through my site so I can send you some images to help you out! Sandi Meyer, Tulip, and Jamie Bee I’m looking at you! 🙂
wanna win
I think the best makeup tip I’ve learned is always apply a face primer. It makes makeup go on so much smoother and it makes it so your face products don’t settle in your pores. I try to find organic, vegan primers and it’s fairly easy.
My tip is to use the good stuff! It looks better and makes you feel pampered!
Got to find a good makeup remover!
I would like a tip on making my eyes look larger and wider….can make up do that? 🙂 Thank you.
Jaque, A couple of quick tips for you. 1 avoid dark eye colors, things like the smokey eye or lining your eye all around with dark liner will make you eyes appear smaller. 2. Use a soft white or light beige on your lower waterline instead of a dark liner. Use the liner on your lower lash line instead, though don’t take it all the way in to the inner corner. You make have to play with the white on the lower waterline to get the effect you want. Less is more in this case. 3. Make sure to use a soft white to highlight your brow bone and the inside corner of your eye. This will make your eye appear both wider and taller. and 4. carefully extend your eye liner past the outside corner of your eye, moving slightly upwards. This helps widen your eyes. A great soft white color from the Younique collection is ‘innocent’ or ‘curious’. A soft black such as ‘corrupted’ or the slate gray ‘risqué’ are great liner options. I hope this helps!
Use Johnsons Baby Wash to get make up off. It works better than make up remover and its Tear Free!

I would love a tip on clump free lashes.
Are you wiggling the mascara wand side to side as you apply? If so STOP! Your lashes will hit each other while you wiggle and then stick together. Just do smooth straight lines. Using the lash brush helps a little bit. Also, when is the last time you replaced your mascara? Do you know you should replace your mascara every 6 months to help keep your eyes from getting infections?! If its been awhile since you replaced, this may be a large reason why you’re getting clumping. None of this advice apply to you? Let me know and we can troubleshoot 🙂
My makeup tip is: When applying a pencil eyeliner to your inner eyelids it works best if you slightly burn the pencil tip with a lighter for smoother application which lasts longer.
I always struggled with pencil eyeliner. It always felt like it was scratching my lids, and I couldn’t get it to go on straight. For me, I love using mineral eye pigments with a damp eye liner brush. It goes on smooth and consistently, stays put, and I don’t have to poke my eyelid to do it!
I would love to know how to keep my foundation from settling in to my lines and wrinkles.. no amount of primer or anything else seems to help!
Rachel, what kind of foundation are you using? Liquid, powder, gel, etc?
I use liquid. I would prefer powder but I have terrible dry patches and it settles and looks awful.. The liquid isn’t as bad, being that it doesn’t settle into my dry patches but it does settle into my lines. Ugh!
Rachel, it sounds like your actual challenge is finding how to have a positive effect on your dry patches. You foundation is going to match itself to your skin texture, not matter what type you use. The only way to avoid that is to use stage cake makeup, which you don’t want to do. Finding a moisturizer that balances your dry spots to the rest of your skin is going to make a huge difference for you. Do you have a moisturizer that you use on your face? What is your general skin care look like (face wash, moisturizer)
I would love to know about eyebrows, mine are horrible.
Judy, what is the difficulty with your particular eyebrows? Too much, too little, shape, etc?
put concealer on your lips before lipstick to make it last
Susan, excellent tip! You can also use mineral blush or pigments that match the lipstick color to extend the life and fit the color instead of softening the color.
Make-Up I will have to say is my best friend! I never could find the right makeup for me until I got Mineral Makeup! I have very sensitive skin and break out so easily if I am not careful! My Tip would have to be to use a foundation primer after you put your concealer on, then put your foundation on! A lot of my friends and family used it before the concealer but i noticed my foundation staying on a lot better if I put it on after and didn’t look as blotchy! Another thing is if you have sensitive skin, stick to mineral based makeup. Lesser chance of having breakouts and has a more natural look!
I agree! Mineral makeup gets rid of so many issues! It is naturally hypoallergenic, and some can even help naturally heal your skin as it has natural antiinflamitory and antibacterial agents! This is one of the many reasons I LOVE Younique Products!!
I would love a tip on applying eye shadow.
Trisha, what are you looking for? Just general application, night looks, how to make your eyes brighter, how to match your eye color? So many options 🙂
I am looking for general application, applying two or three colors without looking like a mess and how to wear more dramatic night looks without resembling an overdone raccoon. 🙂
So I just realized I failed miserably in responding to this! I’m so sorry!! Two or three colors without looking a mess. My biggest suggestion is in the tools. Great quality brushes make a HUGE difference in making sure your makeup goes where you want it and blends well. If you’re trying to use the cheap applicator that comes with most pressed shadows you won’t get what you want without a lot of work and a lot of skill. I also suggest starting with softer colors to get the blending down and going from there. You can get drama without dark colors. Try using a strong iridescent white or soft pink on your lids. Then go with a bolder color or dark neutral on the outer 1/2 of your lid. Then, using a blending brush, blend the edge of the iridescent into the outer 1/2 color to merge the two. Then put a slightly darker neutral in your crease by applying it on the outer v and then blend with the blending brush .You don’t need to actually apply it to your crease, use the blending brush to lightly merge it into your crease. Does this make sense at all? If not let me know! We could even set up a video chat if you’d like!
I live in Brazil and I know it´s almost impossible I win that , but I’d really love to, it´s really amazing.
