We are just about half way through our journey of 31 ways to celebrate the day. We have been focusing on simple things to do that help us slow down the pace of our life by creating intentional moments of fun, thinking of others and doing deliberate tasks that renew our perspective.
So, today is about relationships. When we live busy lives, it can sometimes be easy to fall into the trap of seeing people as distractions. We are trying to get something done at work but the co-worker stopping by is more of an interruption to us than a chance to build a relationship. We are trying to get the dishes done, but our kids want us to sit down and read them a book. A friend calls needing help with something and we consider it more of a burden than a chance to serve and show we care.
Today’s Simple Way #15 is to spend one-on-one time with someone today. Don’t worry about quantity of time, but rather quality. Sit down and play your child’s favorite board game with them. Take a cup of coffee to a friend and catch up. Grab a late dinner with your spouse. Whatever you do, focus on making that person feel valued and important to you.
Questions to Ask Yourself:
Does that person know I care about them?
Do they feel valued by me?
Do they know that they are worth my time?
Do they feel that they can ask me for help or come to me for advice?
